If you’re dreaming of a Folly Beach November elopement, there’s something special waiting for you after the summer crowds disappear. The air turns crisp, the beaches grow quiet, and the light feels softer somehow. This wedding was the perfect reminder that you don’t need warm weather for a magical day by the ocean.
Sure, it was cold. The wind had everyone holding onto jackets and bouquets, and her veil spent most of the afternoon doing whatever it wanted. But the sun was out, the sky was clear, and honestly, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

I grew up on James Island, and some of my favorite memories were made just a few minutes down the road on Folly Beach. It’s a place that’s always felt a little magical to me. Maybe it’s the salty air, the sound of the waves, or the way the light catches the water at the end of the day. Whatever it is, there’s an energy there that I can’t quite explain. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down, breathe a little deeper, and be present.
I think that’s why I love photographing weddings there so much. Folly Beach never feels like just another backdrop. It becomes part of the story. The wind, the changing tides, the sea oats swaying in the breeze… it’s beautifully unpredictable, and I thrive on that.

The morning started at their beach house with family slowly getting ready together.
Her sisters helped her into her dress while sunlight poured through the windows overlooking the beach. There wasn’t a packed timeline or a room full of bridesmaids running around. It was calm. Everyone took their time, chatted over coffee, and soaked in the excitement before heading down to the sand.
Those slower mornings are some of my favorite parts of a wedding day. They give everyone a chance to actually be present instead of rushing from one thing to the next.

Their ceremony was exactly what they wanted. Small, intimate, and surrounded by the people they love.
One of my favorite moments happened without anyone planning it.
Their little boy proudly carried the rings down the aisle before watching his parents say “I do,” while their sweet baby girl slept through nearly the entire ceremony, completely content in her aunt’s arms.
Those are the moments I always find myself thinking about later. Not the perfectly timed kiss or the posed portraits, but the little pieces of the day that no one could have planned. The moments that remind you this isn’t just a wedding, it’s the beginning of another chapter for a family.

Before we headed off for portraits, we made one quick stop to dig up the bourbon they had buried before the wedding.
It’s an old Southern tradition that’s supposed to bring good weather on your wedding day, and judging by the bright sunshine, I’d say it worked.
It was just the three of us out there searching through the sand until we finally found it. Honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the day. It wasn’t a big moment, but it felt so them, and those are always the memories I love photographing most.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned photographing weddings on Folly Beach, it’s that you can’t fight the wind.
You just let it be part of the story.
Her veil floated behind her with every step, their hair blew everywhere, and they spent half the time laughing instead of worrying about whether everything looked perfect.
Honestly, I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
The beach doesn’t need to be perfectly calm to be beautiful.

After the ceremony and portraits, everyone headed back into downtown Charleston to celebrate together at Victor’s, where the alley was decorated like a Winter Wonderland.
The nerves were gone. Drinks were poured, cakes were cut, hugs were shared, and everyone settled in to celebrate these two with good food and even better company.
It felt less like a formal reception and more like a room full of people who were genuinely happy to be together.
Those are always my favorite kinds of celebrations.

If you’re planning a Folly Beach November elopement, don’t let the forecast scare you.
November is one of my favorite times of year to photograph weddings on the coast. The crowds have thinned out, the light is gorgeous, and even a little wind has a way of making everything feel more alive.
Whether you’re planning a beach ceremony with just the two of you or inviting your closest family and friends, your wedding doesn’t have to be elaborate to be unforgettable.
Sometimes all you really need is the ocean, the people you love, and a day that feels completely like your own.
